Update-“Happy & Glorious ” Exhibition 30th April-8th May
April 30 @ 10:00 am - May 8 @ 4:00 pm
News from St. Mary’s Church, Bungay.
The pre-Jubilee exhibition, ‘Happy and Glorious’ will be open daily from Saturday April 30th until Sunday May 8th. Entrance will be free, but proceeds will go towards funding further events, and a donation given to Bungay Museum which is helping with the exhibits.
There will be royal memorabilia and records of town dignitaries who were in office during the Silver, Gold and Diamond Jubilees. But to supplement this theme there will be accounts of the changes to the town during the 70 years of Her Majesty’s reign. Buildings, shops, pubs and businesses that have changed plus local celebrities, memorable events, and new road systems will be highlighted by pictures and reports. A book has been compiled of Bungay’s changes over 70 years and this will be on sale at the exhibition along with other local books and pamphlets.
To celebrate fashion, a display is planned of hats borrowed from local ladies, which will be interspersed with pictures of the Queen wearing everything from a tiara to a headscarf. For children, there is a competition to design a hat fit for a Queen, with prizes of a book called ‘The Queen’s Hat’.
Extra entertainment is provided on both Sundays of the event. On Sunday 1st May at 2pm, there is a walk round Bungay highlighting Town Centre changes 1953 – 2022. This is followed by tea and cake and costs £8 per person.
At Sunday May 8th at 4.15, after the close of the exhibition, there will be a local film, followed by afternoon tea. His costs £5.00, and for each event advance booking is necessary.
