News from St.Mary’s Church, Bungay
During the past Saharan summer, St.Mary’s has proved to be a cool venue for many town activities, and we now look forward to an interesting Autumn.
The Churches Conservation Trust, who own the building, have chosen St. Mary’s for their local conference of CCT workers plus redundant-church supporters, on Friday September 9th. So although the church will be closed that day, we plan to have a special display, showing St.,Mary’s treasures, the following weekend (Sat. 10th and Sunday 11th)to celebrate Heritage week. This will be a free entry event with donations welcome.
In October, another exhibition will run from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th, entitled “Artists, Authors and Agriculture in the Waveney Valley”. Drawing from writers like Henry Rider Haggard and Adrian Bell, who were also farmers, and local painters who depicted the agricultural scene, the theme will enlarge on the many diversifications brought about by economic and climate change. From mangols to biofuel, from farm shops to set-aside, from Suffolk punches to tractors, plus the many lost mills, maltings and fruit farms, we hope to show the agricultural progression from Victorian times to the present day.
